Weaving Color Gamp Towels / June 2020
A color gamp is a cloth that has sequence of different color stripes in the warp. Repeating those colors or a different set of colors in the weft allows the weaver to see how each of the warp colors interacts with each of the weft colors.
In this class you will explore color by weaving four beautiful cotton gamp-style dish towels to brighten your kitchen. If you prefer you can weave several color gamp samplers to be saved for future reference. The colors in the warp include gold, orange, red, purple, blue and green and intermediate shades for a total of 11 colors. You will have many colors to choose from when experimenting with weft colors.
While weaving the traditional gamp, other skills that can be explored during class include color and weave techniques, weaving with 2 shuttles, weaving with a temple, and hemstitching.
